Premier League giants Arsenal have qualified for the next round of the English FA Cup after beating Portsmouth 2-0 on Monday night, March 2, in the fifth round tie.

The Gunners went into this encounter with wounded minds having been sent out of the Europa League championship where they played in the final last season.

So Mikel Arteta and his men wanted redemption against Portsmouth for their fans which they got winning away from home in the FA Cup fifth round.

But despite their superb performance in this encounter, Arsenal had to wait till the 45th minute before scoring their goal through Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

The Gunners had another chance to increase the scoreline before the end of the first half when Bukayo Saka supplied a brilliant pass for Lucas Torreira who missed it.

Portsmouth came out smoking in the second half trying to get an equalizer against Arsenal with Ben Close having the chance in the 51st minute, but was unable to beat Martinez.

Arsenal scored their second goal in the 51st minute through Edward Nketiah who superbly beat goalkeeper Alen Bass.

Mikel Arteta's men eventually won the match 2-0 to qualify for the next round of the English FA Cup.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how football fans started trolling Arsenal on social media following their ouster in this season's Europa League championship losing at home against Olympiacos.

Arsenal stars disappointed their fans on Thursday night, February 27, when they were bundled out of the Europa League with a 2-1 home defeat in which Youssef El Arabi's stoppage time goal condemned the Gunners to a defeat.

It was Jose Mourinho's first home game in charge of Tottenham and fans are now of the view that the Portuguese sent Olympiacos to the Europa League for them to punish Arsenal.
