Coronavirus: American laboratory investigated for possible contamination of test kits

- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been identified as the producer of test kits which are possibly contaminated

- The revelation comes after the centre reportedly rejected coronavirus test kits from the World Health Organization as it tried to make its own

- It has been estimated that this new development may hamper the USA's efforts in dealing with the coronavirus

An Atlanta-based laboratory is currently under investigation for possible contamination of test kits.

This has led many to conclude that the coronavirus may have spread faster in the United States of America (USA) than originally thought due to this singular act.

Health authorities in the country are therefore trying to find answers after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reportedly produced faulty coronavirus test kits.

It was reported that the tests have been released to a number of state health departments and the test-kit production has now been moved to a different laboratory.

The latest development comes as a big blow for the CDC after it rejected coronavirus test kits from the World Health Organization in an attempt to make its own.

It is yet to be determined whether the potential faults in the test kits had led to wrong diagnoses or missed new ones.

However, the new development is likely to tamper with the country’s efforts at dealing with the coronavirus.

The information available shows that 3,600 people around the country have so far been tested and there are 86 confirmed cases at the moment.

In other news, it has been projected that more than half of the population growth of the world would happen in Africa.

This has led to concerns about the readiness of governments to cater for the infrastructural and policy needs of their citizens.

However, the African youth remain optimistic about the prospects of the continent, according to the 2020 edition of the African Youth Survey 2020.

It has been projected that 82% of respondents are convinced that there would be an improvement in the standard of living in the next two years. 81% of Africans have predicted that technology would play a key role in a bid to change fortunes.

Per a report by qz.com, this does not, however, imply that Africans are oblivious to the fact that technology may not solve all of Africa’s problems.
