Folding phones: Mobile communications takes a massive leap into next phase
- Popular telecommunication brands have unveiled folding phones with new cool and exciting features
- A review of the phones manufactured by two top brands reveals some of their exciting features
- The folding technology, however, has a long way to go as tech experts express mixed feelings about some of the features
Technological innovation across the world is growing at an exponential rate as various brands compete to outdo one another in unveiling new inventions.
A popular telecommunication giant has unveiled a new smartphone model named Galaxy Z Flip.
It is a vertical folding which, as its name implies, can be flipped or folded.
Technology experts have, however, expressed mixed feelings about the future and durability of the folding technology.
Marques Brownlee, a popular American tech YouTuber, after using Galaxy Z Flip for like half an hour said he has mixed feelings about its features
"On one hand, it feels like it is easily the most polished and mature folding phone yet but on the other hand, it still has a long way to go to be something I will actually buy and it still has its flaws," Brownlee said.
Speaking about the phone's specifications, Brownlee noted that Galaxy Z Flip has flagship internals, unlike some other folding phones, like Moto Razor.
Moto Razor has snapdragon 855 + 8 gigabytes of RAM, 256 gigs of storage and a combined 3300 milliamp pour battery.
It has wireless charging, dual cameras 112-megapixel standard and 12-megapixel ultra-wide, but does not have flagship specs like Galaxy Z Flip.
Galaxy Z Flip has a different design and material choices which makes it unique. Also, the screen is not plastic but an ultra-thin folding glass; 6.7-inch 21 by 9 display, 1080p OLED 60 Hertz.
It also has a hole punch cut out for selfie camera up top instead of a notch and its is much thinner.
However, Brownlee complains about the crease of the phone, that is the middle of the phone's screen display where it folds.
Also, the front cover display of Moto Razor seems preferable to that of Galaxy Z Flip.
When you close the phone, the front cover display of Galaxy Z Flip is just 1-inch 300 by 1:12 display on the outside of the fold, unlike Moto Razor which has bigger functionality.
"It could have featured another extra functionality just like Moto Razo," Brownlee suggested.
Also, Galaxy Z Flip has a three-step hinge that can be opened like a laptop.
On the whole, Galaxy Z Flip is unique in its cover display on the outside, the specs and the build quality.
Brownlee noted that the phone is fascinating but it has to be "more than just fascinating to be worth $1,380". He added that the phone could have been cheaper.
The influential tech expert reviewer said the durability of the battery and how long the hinge lasts will be some major things to look out for as the phone gets to the market.
