Governor Emeka Ihedioha administration has paid Imo pensioners.

The Imo government commenced the payment of pensioners on Thursday, October 17 after receiving the report from the pension verification committee on Wednesday, October 16.

The pensioners have now been paid two months arrears of their salary.

The governor made the announcement in a statewide broadcast to the people of the state.

He said before the advent of his administration, the Imo state pension system was afflicted with intractable problems and riddled with corruption.

“Sadly, we inherited six years of pension arrears and discovered inexplicable discrepancies in the total number of pensioners in both the state and 27 local governments.

“We received complains of various forms of irregularities in the scheme from various pension beneficiaries and stakeholders.

“When we made an attempt to resolve the contending issues, we were confronted with conflicting information from various offices in charge of pension administration.

“The main objective of this action was to ascertain the actual number of pensioners in Imo state and to end the corruption and perennial circle of verifications, that have plagued the processes over the years,” he said.

He said it has been his desire for senior citizens in Imo to retire happily, live in dignity and receive their pensions as at when due.

Governor Ihedioha recently adopted a little boy for life and promised to train him.

The governor made the disclosure on Friday, October 11 when he hosted the boy, David Wisdom Uchechukwu and his family to a breakfast meeting.

Little David had made a wonderful recitation during the 2019 Independence Day celebration at Ikeduru Local Government Area where the governor was present.
