Bayelsa APC primaries: Party disqualifies ex-Cross River REC, clears Lokpobiri, others

- Dr Frankland Briyai, has been disqualified from contesting the APC governorship ticket ahead of the governorship election in Bayelsa state

- Briyai, who is the immediate past Cross River state resident electoral commissioner, was disqualified for not being a card-carrying member of APC for up to one calendar year

- The party cleared Preys Aganaba, Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, Diseye Poweigha, Lyon David, Professor Ongoebi Etebu and Senator Heineken Lokpobiri

The Bayelsa state gubernatorial primary election screening committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has released the list of those cleared to contest the primary election of the party ahead of the governorship election in the state.

The screening committee disqualified the immediate past Cross River state resident electoral commissioner, Dr Frankland Briyai from participating in the August 29th primaries.

The Nation reports that Briyai was disqualified for not being a card-carrying member of APC for up to one calendar year.

Legit.ng gathers that those cleared for the primary include: Preys Aganaba, Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, Diseye Poweigha, Lyon David, Professor Ongoebi Etebu and Senator Heineken Lokpobiri.

In its report addressed to the national chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole, the committee said the exercise was conducted in line with guidelines and code of conduct of the APC.

The report read: “Each aspirant was asked questions relating to qualifications and conduct in line with both party constitution and election guidelines to contest for the governorship primary election under the platform of the APC.

“We also asked them to produce evidence of membership of the party, voters card and payment of the prescribed fees as well as the original copy of their credentials for sighting. The screening committee was empowered to screen aspirants for the governorship election for Bayelsa."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) raked in N693 million from sales of nomination forms to the aspirants vying for the two governorship seats in Bayelsa and Kogi.

No fewer than 21 aspirants from Bayelsa purchased the PDP form, while 13 aspirants bought from Kogi.

During the last general elections, the PDP charged N5 million for its governorship nomination form but jacked up the fee by almost 400% this time around after citing rising costs of printing and logistics.
