Wole Soyinka is a Nigerian playwright, poet, and essayist. He is a well-respected, popular Nigerian known across the globe. He has received many awards, including a Nobel Prize in Literature.

The respect shown to Soyinka could be the reason why many people were furious after an incident occurred on an airplane with the professor on it.

A young man had reportedly asked professor Wole Soyinka to stand up from his allocated seat on the airplane. The professor was said to have sat on the seat beside the window.

According to an Instagram user, Tonye Patrick Cole, who had witnessed the incident, the man had arrived later than the professor and he asked him to stand up from his seat.

Cole explained that the professor had respectfully vacated the seat without any argument with the young man.

The Instagram user, however, stated that other passengers were furious at the young man for disrespecting the well-respected professor.
