9th NASS: IDP’s canvass support for Gaya to become deputy Senate president

- IDP’s in Abuja have urged that APC and senators-elect to support the deputy Senate presidency bid of Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya

- The IDP’s asserted that if given the opportunity, the Kano lawmaker has the capacity to do more to ensure that the north-east is secured for them to return home without further delay

- The displaced persons further implored politicians and parties to elect Gaya as deputy Senate president for speedy implementation of policies aimed at ensuring a brighter future for them

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and senators-elect from other parties to have been urged by some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in different camps in Abuja to support the deputy Senate presidency bid of Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya.

Speaking with a Leadership correspondent, many IDP’s at the Lugbe FCT camp who hail from the north-east said they were eager to return home and urged the 9th Senate to elect Gaya as deputy Senate president so as to help them return.

Legit.ng gathers that speaking on behalf of others in the camp, Malam Goni Bulama, pointed out that as a senator, Gaya had proposed the establishment of the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) .

He said if given the opportunity, the Kano lawmaker has the capacity to do more to ensure that the north-east is secured for indigenes to return home without further delay.

He asserted that IDP’s would have returned to their homes if the federal government is as serious as Senator Gaya in looking into their plight.

Bulama implored politicians and parties to elect Gaya as deputy Senate president for speedy implementation of policies aimed at ensuring brighter future for IDP’s; urging them not to play politics with the issue.

He urged the APC’s NWC, President Muhammadu Buhari and senators of the 9th Assembly to elect experienced people this time around, in order to bring development to the country.

Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that the chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Kabiru Gaya, on Thursday, April 4, officially declared his intention to contest for the position of deputy Senate president in the ninth National Assembly.

The senator, who has been in the Senate for the past 12 years, told journalists at the National Assembly in Abuja that he has what it takes to occupy the seat.
