2019 election: ‘Marketing’ Buhari is easy because of his achievements - Campaign aide

- Gbenga Elegbeleye said President Buhari is a ‘good product’ to sell

- Elegbeleye who is a member of the Directorate of Contact and Mobilisation of the Women and Youth Presidential Campaign Team said Buhari’s achievements make campaigning for him quite easy

- The campaign aide added reiterated that another four years of Buhari will witness tremendous development

Gbenga Elegbeleye, a member of the Directorate of Contact and Mobilisation of the Women and Youth Presidential Campaign Team, has described President Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as a good product to market.

Elegbeleye said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sideline of N-Power enrollees’ campaign for Buhari’s re-election bid in Ikare.

The campaign was organised by Olubunmi Ademosu, the special adviser to the Ondo state governor on public and intergovernmental relations, who also doubles as the focal person for N-Power in the state.

Elegbeleye, who is the former director-general of the National Sports Commission, said that Buhari stood a better chance to win the election, given his achievements, especially in the area of infrastructure development.

He said that part of his responsibility was to mobilise women, youths, sportsmen and women to vote for President Buhari.

He said that since his appointment, marketing the president to the Nigerian electorate had been quite easy because of his tremendous achievements in all sectors.

He said: “I am in the women and youth mobilisation team, our job is to mobilise the young ones, including the sportsmen, all of them are youths and a lot of them are supporting us.

“We have a good product to sell, Buhari is a good product, he is not too difficult to sell, and we have what to say to let the whole world know he is a better person.

“Lagos-Ibadan Road, massive work in progress. I travelled through Ore to Lagos, work in progress.

“Last time, I was in Kaduna, I travelled by train. For the first time, I felt comfortable as a Nigerian travelling by train.

“When I look back at train services in Ibadan in those days, it was just to think about bringing cows from the North to the market.

“Another four years of Buhari will witness tremendous development.”

Elegbeleye expressed the hope that the proposed new rail lines to Akure would extend to Ikare.

He said that travelling by train would help to check the spate of kidnapping in the area, adding that “anyone travelling to the north or any part of the country will travel by train.

“And you know we live in the rain forest, whatever you do to our road, construct it and re-construct it, after a few years, it will still go bad again.

“Except a responsive government like this that can do constant rehabilitation, the more the train, the better for our roads,” he said.

In a related development, Judith Amaechi, wife of the minister of transport, Rotimi Amaechi, said the President Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) has done more for the south-south than any other government.

Ms Ameachi made the comment on Wednesday, February 6, during the South-South Women and Youth Presidential Campaign which was organised by the Foundation for Female Empowerment (FEP) and took place in Port Harcourt.

She said: “There are so many things in the south-south that speak for themselves, which Buhari brought to the area. I want to assure you that this region will deliver for President Buhari, come February 16.”
