Just in: Again, EUI says Atiku of PDP will win presidential election

Ahead of the general elections, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) Africa has once again claimed that presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar, will defeat President Buhari in the February 16 presidential election.

This was disclosed on the Twitter handle of the organisation on Friday, February 1. However, the organisation said the margin of victory will not be much.

"Less than 2 weeks before #Nigeria's presidential election. Abubakar has floated idea of corruption amnesty. It is arguably an impolitic time for such a delicate proposal.

"Abubakar is hard-pressed to convince voters that he is a clean politician, having been on the receiving end of numerous graft allegations in the past. We retain our forecast for #Abubakar to win, but expected margin of victory is narrowing as the poll approaches," the tweet read.

Recall that Legit.ng had reported that the federal government had described the predictions on the 2019 general elections by two British-based institutions, HSBC and The Economists, as fake and a psychological warfare against the anti-corruption policies of the current administration.

Legit.ng reported that the minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, stated this when he paid an advocacy visit to Channels Television on Friday, September 14.

The minister said: “We have all read that the intelligence unit of the Economist said the PDP will defeat the ruling APC in 2019. We have also read that the international financial institution, HSBC, said Nigeria’s economic development will be stunted if President Buhari gets a second term.

“Let me state clearly that these reports are based on fake premises and, therefore, qualify as fake news. It is a psychological warfare by those who have been badly hit by our policies. Our fight against corruption has meant that many financial institutions, especially banks, that fed fat on the proceeds of corruption are no longer able to do that."
