President Buhari makes new important appointment

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr. Vincent Isegbe as the director general of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS).

Nigerian Tribune reports that following President Buhari’s assent to the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (Establishment) Bill, 2018, NAQS became an agency of the government.

Isegbe’s appointment is for five years. He is expected to be responsible for institutionalising the administrative and management structures requisite for operationalising the paramilitary status of the agency.

NAQS was established to promote and regulate sanitary and phytosanitary measures with respect to the export and import of plants, veterinary and aquatic resources.

The mandate of the Service is to ensure the conformance of Nigerian agricultural products to international standards - particularly, the requirements of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) and the International Office of Epizootics –and to stimulate international trade in Nigerian agricultural products.

In another news, Buhari appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police Adamu Mohammed as acting Inspector General of Police. He would be replacing the retiring IG of Police Ibrahim Idris.

Legit.ng had reported that the newly-appointed IGP Adamu has said he will restrategise to tackle the problem of insecurity in the country.

Daily Trust reports that Adamu spoke shortly after his meeting with President Buhari and his predecessor, Idris, in Abuja on Tuesday, January 15.

Adamu said he would stick by the rules in directing the affairs of the nation.
