The report said the attack happened hours after the state governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, held a town hall meeting in the Kasuwan Magani area of the state and vowed to bring perpetrators of insecurity to book.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Obiageli Ezekwesili, presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), said she is concerned over reports that 700 Nigerian soldiers were killed in Baga by Boko Haram terrorists in a recent attack.

Ezekwesili also called for an independent verification of the incident while lamenting that the killings have further discredited the government of President Muhammau Buhari.

"Although the military and the presidency have denied the reports, but the serial credibility challenges of the Buhari administration and the security team he leads as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces have created public distrust of any rebuttal by government. And that is gravely worrisome," she said.
