Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has reportedly said that he will not force Arturo Vidal to stay at the club against his wish.

The Chilean midfielder is heavily wanted by Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho as he continues to build his team for competition next term.

Having missed out of signing Vidal in 2015, the Red Devils will be hoping to land the midfielder before the start of a new season next month.

The back-to-back Copa America winner struggled with injury in most part of last season, while his contract with the Bavarians run out in the summer of 2019.

However, reports filtering the media space in Italy favours Manchester Uniyted to land the Chile international as Atletico Madrid and both the Milan clubs are also said to be interested.

Leon Goretzka has joined Bayern from Schalke and Renato Sanches looks set to be given a chance by new boss Niko Kovac.

That means Vidal faces a battle to be a regular in the starting XI and Rummenigge has opened the door for the midfielder to leave if he wants.

Rummenigge said: "Arturo is known to have another one year contract with us.

"And if he possibly wants to sign up for a club longer, he will deal with it.

"We will not act from our side. If he comes to us and he wants to leave the club, we will deal with it."

United could have an advantage in negotiations as Vidal’s agent Fernando Felicevich also represents Alexis Sanchez.

Vidal has won three Bundesliga titles and a German cup in his three seasons at Bayern.

According to the a UK Sun report citing sources at Bild suggest the Bundesliga champions are ready to offload the Chilean star, who had been severally linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena in the past seasons.

The Old Trafford campaigners missed out on the 31-year-old Vidal, when he left Juventus for Bayern three seasons ago, while Chelsea equally could not seal a move despite series of underground attempts to sign the combative midfielder.
