Mbappe says he faced Croatia in World Cup final with back injury

- Kylian Mbappe was among the top performers as France emerged world champions

- France international netted in the final match to equal Pele's previous record

- The youngster has now revealed he was carrying a back injury but still played in the contest

France youngster Kylian Mbappe has surprisingly disclosed that he was carrying a 'hidden' back injury in the 4-2 victory over Croatia in the final match of the FIFA World Cup in Russia, according to Daily Mail report.

The PSG star was one of top performers at the global football fiesta that saw France claim the famous trophy for the second time in their history.

19-year-old Mbappe was in the front of Les Blues attack line and netted a sublime finish on the 65th minute mark to take the game beyond the East European nation.

In a chat with France Football magazine the forward revealed the injury moments after the celebrations in Moscow.

“It was essential not to alert our opponents, otherwise they could have taken advantage of that and targeted this sensitive area,” the forward said.

“That’s the reason why with the staff and the players we kept it hidden, even for the final.”

At the last count, the France international netted four goals at the Mundial and also claimed the best young player award at the tournament.

Interestingly, after scoring a brace in the round of 16 match up against Argentina’s Albiceleste, Mbappe became the youngest player to hit a brace in a World Cup game since Pele in 1958.

However, his goal in the final ensured he toppled the Brazil legend to become the second teenager to ever score in the prestigious match.

Mbappe’s exploits in Russia has seen him nominated for FIFA’s ‘The Best’ award, which is expected to be revealed on September 24 in London.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously had reported that Paris Saint Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe has revealed that he will donate his entire international match fees to charity.

The 19-year-old striker netted for France in their 4-3 win over Argentina in the quarterfinal stage during the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

His two goals within four minutes proved to be very important as they survived the Argentines' scare in the later minutes of the game.
