BREAKING: President Buhari attends Nigeria-Niger signing ceremony of MOU on refinery

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Nigeria and Niger has been signed at the State House in Abuja.

President Muhammadu Buhari attended the signing ceremony of MOU of the Nigeria-Niger Hydrocarbon Pipeline and Refinery Projects in the State House on Tuesday, July 24.

This was disclosed by the special adviser to President Buhari on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, on his Facebook page.

Legit.ng notes that Adesina in the post, shared pictures of the signing ceremony which had President Buhari, his Nigerien counterpart, Mahamadou Issoufu, in attendance.

Others were Nigeria's minister of state for petroleum Ibe Kachikwu and Niger Republic's minister of energy, Foumakoye Gado.

According to President Buhari's personal assistant on new media, Bashir Ahmad, the two presidents met yesterday night, Monday, July 23, at the State House before the agreement for the construction of hydrocarbon pipeline from Niger to Nigeria was finally signed on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that out of the 35 firms that expressed interest to establish modular refineries, 13 were given licenses by the Nigerian government.

Maikanti Baru, the group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), made the announcement at the Offshore Technology Conference 2018 Nigeria Oil Industry Award Dinner in the United States, where he was the special guest of honour and received an award.

According to him, the corporation and the ministry of petroleum resources were collaborating to encourage the establishment of modular refineries in the Niger Delta to encourage job creation.
