Ministers cannot be picked from every tribe - President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has told members of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) that it was not possible to make ministerial appointments on tribal basis.
Buhari told the traditional rulers and opinion leaders drawn from the union on Monday, June 25, that it is not possible to make a minister from every tribal group because there are about 250 tribal groups in the country, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

“Two hundred and fifty ministers will be too cumbersome to handle, so it is limited by the constitution. So the only thing we can do is to pick one person per state," he said.
Buhari thanked the nation for ensuring peaceful coexistence between the law enforcement agencies and the people in the oil producing areas.
He called on leaders in the Niger Delta to continue to cooperate and support the federal government in its efforts to transform the nation to greater height.
"I appeal to you to keep restraining your subjects to please think more of being Nigerians than any particular part of Nigeria.
“This is necessary so that the resources that God blessed us with can be fully exploited, utilized for the benefits of the whole country.

”Unfortunately for me, I have gone through all the happenings in the country including the civil war, like you have mentioned I was petroleum minister for three or four years and so I have some experience and have a stake in the country,’’ he added.
President Buhari urged the leaders to talk to militants to please give peace a chance and stop sabotaging installations, noting that if the water is polluted it will affect the people in the region who depend on fishing.
“You don’t need money from Central Bank, what you need is secured coastlines that will enable the people earn decent living through fishing," he stated.
Meanwhile, President Buhari has ordered the massive transfer of police personnel in Zamfara state as part of deliberate measures to address cases of armed banditry in the state.
The president disclosed this when a delegation of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria visited him at the state house, Abuja, on Monday, June 25, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Buhari was reacting to the burning issue of violent conflicts in some parts of country, especially Zamfara state which has been battling cattle rustling and kidnapping in recent months.
