Cleric tells Nigerians to stop blaming Buhari for economic woes

- An Abuja-based Muslim cleric, Ustar Umar Solomon, has called on Nigerians to stop blaming President Muhammadu Buhari for the country's economic condition

- He said the president or the government should not be blamed, adding that the youths should correct their own faults

- He urged Nigerians to invest their resources instead of spending needlessly

Nigerians have been urged by an Abuja-based Muslim cleric, Ustaz Umar Solomon, to stop blaming President Muhammadu Buhari or the government for the country's economic situation.

Solomon said that Nigerians, especially the youths, should look at their personal shortcoming first and correct them instead of blaming the president, Daily Trust reports. notes that the advice was given on Sunday, May 27 in Abuja at the annual Ramadan lecture of the Afemai Islamic Movement (AIM), themed "Fighting Poverty and Creation of Wealth in Islam".

He said: "Our problem is not the policy of the government but not seeing where the opportunities are. President Buhari or the government is not the problem but disobedience to Allah and Prophet Muhammad. We are no longer depending on Allah, thus we are not getting things right.

"However, relying on Allah does not mean staying at home, expecting monies to miraculously land on your table or pockets without working and striving legitimately."

He called on Nigerians to invest resources to create more wealth instead of engaging in uncontrollable material acquisition.

Meanwhile, previously reported that some lawmakers warned President Muhammadu Buhari of the challenges and poverty situations faced by Nigerians.

The lawmakers urged President Buhari's administration to make efforts towards tackling the problems of poverty in Nigeria.
