Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero ruled out of 2018 World Cup

Manchester United and Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero has been ruled out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia due to knee injury he sustained in training.

Serio Romero has won 94 caps for his country, and the 31-year-old was also active in helping Argentina to qualify for the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Last season, Romero made 10 appearances for Manchester United with nine of those coming in cup competitions as he served as back-up to David de Gea.

Argentina will now rely on Chelsea goalie Willy Caballero and Franco Armani for their campaign at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

They are in Group D where they will face the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Iceland and Croatia for a fight to qualify for the knock out stage.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Argentina released their 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup staging in Russia with Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi topping the list of the invited players.

Also included in coach Paolo Sampaoli's team for the championship kicking off next month is Juventus attacker Paulo Dybala.

Manchester City striker, Sergio Kun Aguero, Paris Saint Germain winger Angel Di Maria, Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo also made the cut as the south American team will be hoping to go beyond their last outing in Brazil, where they lost 1-0 to Germany in the final.
