Rumours of another attack on National Assembly thickens

- Thugs stormed the Nigerian Senate chamber on Wednesday, April 18, and stole the mace

- The thugs allegedly sponsored by suspended senator, Ovie Omo-Agege, later dumped the Senate's symbol of authority by the road side

- There are fears that the incident may repeat itself again

There are rumours in the National Assembly that a mass protest of about 2,000 people will be held on Tuesday, May 15.

Sources told Legit.ng that the protesters are mostly from Delta state, while the rest are residents in the Federal Capital Territory.

The sources, who spoke anonymously, as they were not authorised to speak on the issue, said intelligence reports say the protesters are backed by senators under the disbanded Buhari Support Group in the red chambers.

The protesters are also expected to march in solidarity to the court judgement delivered in favour of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege recently.

Legit.ng had reported that the decision of the Nigerian Senate to suspend Senator Omo-Agege for 90 legislative days has been quashed by a Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, May 10.

In delivering the judgement, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, submitted that the Senate did not adhere to the due process of the law in suspending Omo-Agege for 90 days.

In response, on the same day, the Nigerian Senate promptly filed a notice of appeal and a motion for stay of execution of the judgement.

The Senate and its president, Bukola Saraki, who is the second defendant in the case, also filed for a stay of execution of the nullification of the suspension.
