BREAKING: Shiite protesters ground federal secretariat after chasing away policemen

The federal secretariat complex in Abuja has been grounded by Shiite youths protesting the continued detention of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

Few meters away from the secretariat complex is the National Assembly and the Presidential Villa.

The protesting youths, who were armed with stones, were said to have chased away a police team and overturned a traffic warden cabin on the road, Punch reports.

Legit.ng notes that the protesters also reportedly injured the federal secretariat divisional police crime officer in the face after he asked them to stop harassing motorists. The protesters, who were chanting “Free El-Zakyzaky,” dared the police to engage and dislodge them.

It was gathered that a team of policemen has arrived to dislodge the protesting youths.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that an activist and politician, Deji Adeyanju, was arrested by the Nigerian police on Friday, April 13, during the day 94 of the Free Zakzaky (#FreeZakzaky) daily sit-out at the Unity Fountain, Abuja.

The police also tear-gassed participants of the sit-out and forcefully evicted them from the centre.

Recently, the Buhari Media Support Group had asked for the arrest and interrogation of Adeyanju for crimes of sedition.
