Nigerian Army warns Maiduguri residents as soldiers, Boko Haram members reportedly clash

The Nigerian Army, in the evening of Thursday, April 26, released a warning to residents of Maiuguri in Borno state asking them not to panic but remain in their houses as tension spread between soldiers and Boko Haram invaders.

“The general public is please requested not to panic and discountenance rumours of Boko Haram presence.

“You are further enjoined enjoined to please remain at home and be vigilant. The security situation in Maiduguri is under control,” a short statement from Colonel Kingsley Samuel, the deputy director of Army public relations, said.

A resident of the city, Mustapha Yahaya reacted to the statement by the Nigerian Army thus: “Presence of Boko Haram right now in the outskirts of Maiduguri is not a rumour. I still can here loud sounds of explosions and heavy gun fire.

“The only thing is let's pray for our gallant troops in the front line. May Allah protect and preserve them for us, and may they succeed and win the war against all enemies of the state particularly Boko Haram.”

Legit.ng earlier reported that Boko Haram insurgents reportedly attacked Maiduguri, the Borno state capital now, with Nigerian troops pushing them back.

It was learnt that the attack appeared to be coming from the Damboa road axis of the city that is popularly called Polo area.
