The presidency has reportedly summoned a substantive minister in Buhari’s cabinet to explain how he came about the funds to purchase a massive edifice worth N280 million in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The New Telegraph reports that the property in question was purchased in 2017 and that the presidency became aware of the purchase following a petition to the president.

A source told the newspaper that the minister who recently moved into the palatial house with his security details was staying in an N8 million per annum rented apartment when he became a cabinet member in 2015.

“The president summoned him following the receipt of the petition against him that he bought a house of N280 million for residential purposes.“

The source said the minister claimed that he took a loan from one of the banks to fund the payment but that the presidency wasn’t satisfied with his explanation.

“I think the question to ask the minister is when and how does he intend to pay the loan back? A minister’s take-home is less than N1 million, even if he doesn’t touch one naira from his salary and used it as payment for the loan in the course of his fouryear stay as a minister, it doesn’t still meet up with the loan at all. So, how can you fight corruption when things like these happen among even members of the cabinet"

The source said the minister was already moving around to ensure that the issue is resolved within the presidency.

Meanwhile, a presidential aide, Lauretta Onochie, has mocked the former ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which once claimed to be strong, hale and hearty and even throwing punches at its convention, as it faces drama over Olisa Metuh.

Metuh, the party’s former national publicity secretary, was brought to court in an ambulance, as his trial continues over alleged fraud.

Onochie, who is the personal adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on social media, described what happened in the court as something to complement Nollywood.
