Short history of the university

ACU or The Ajayi Crowther University is a famous private university located in Oyo, Oyo State, Nigeria. The university was founded in 1853 as CMS Training Institution called St. Andrews College by Supra Diocesan Board of the Church of Nigeria.

Firstly the college was situated in Abeokuta then it moved to Lagos, and in 1896 to Oyo. Between 1910 and 1942 it was basically offering the church ministers training courses. In 1985 the institution became full-fledged College of Education. On 7 September 1999, the college was restructured into Ajayi Crowther University.

The school was named after Samuel Ajayi Crowther, he was the first African Bishop and the first translator of the Bible into Yoruba language.

The mission can be expressed in three points:
