The New Nigeria Vision Group (NNVG) has thrown its weight behind former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to emerge as the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 general elections, Leadership reports.

Legit.ng gathered that the national leader of the group, Emmanuel Iriogbe while speaking at a news conference on Thursday, December 14 in Abuja, said that the group is committed to the emergence of a new nation where good governance will improve the quality of lives of Nigerians.

Iriogbe stated that the body would mobilize Nigerians to elect a visionary president as the panacea to engender the rebirth of a new Nigeria.

He described Atiku as a dedicated Nigerian who believes in an indivisible entity where every Nigerian will have equal opportunities to achieve their life goals and aspirations, adding that his aspiration to govern the country is borne out of his genuine desire and love for Nigeria and its citizens, and is not about the attainment of power for its own sake.

“A true believer in the principles of justice, equity and fairness, Atiku is a staunch advocate of restructuring and social justice which a modern Nigeria needs. He is a promoter of free enterprise that will create sustainable jobs, restore the trust and waning confidence of Nigerians in governance and is capable of healing the wounds of discord and disunity.

“Atiku is a humble, detribalized Nigerian and an accomplished administrator of men and resources. He believes in a government that is accountable to and caters for the people in words and deeds, and a true believer in the teeming youth of this nation.

“If elected as president in 2019, the New Nigeria Vision Group is convinced that he will tap the energies of the youth of this country to bring about a new nation that is strong and independent economically and will be the pride of every Nigerian and envy of the African continent, and the globe.

“We therefore, want to use this opportunity to formally declare our unalloyed commitment to ensuring the emergence of Atiku Abubakar, the Wazirin Adamawa as the presidential flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Nigeria’s elected president in 2019 to save our dear nation from its present state of anomie,” Iriogbe added.

Presently, he said that Nigeria is at a cross road politically and socio-economically, and tilting towards complete anarchy because of the multiple dysfunction in all sectors of the economy, coupled with the intransigence of the ruling class and the growing apathy amongst the masses.

According to him, “where Nigeria is today, is mainly due to leadership failure at the national level which in turn has taken a toll on the other levels of governance in the country.

“Today, the country is gripped in the throes of growing hunger and despair, high unemployment, dearth of infrastructure, violent agitations across the length and breadth of the nation, unceasing attacks by Boko Haram terrorists in the North East geo-political and rampaging killer herdsmen, kidnapping and other forms of violent crimes with the Buhari administration lacking the will power to end the senseless killing of innocent and hapless Nigerians.

“The enormous goodwill enjoyed by the Buhari administration in our view, has shrunk in quality to the displeasure of majority of Nigerians, especially the youth and those at the bottom of the social ladder who had high expectations about the ability and capability of the APC to fulfill their dreams and meet their expectations of a better Nigeria,” the group stated.
