Threat to call off ceasefire: FG ready to meet Niger Delta Avengers

- The Niger Delta Avengers called off its ceasefire more than a year after it announced an end to attacks on facilities in Nigeria’s oil-rich region

- Usani Uguru Usani, the Nigeria’s minister for the oil-producing region spoke on the federal government agenda

Usani Uguru Usani, the Nigeria’s minister for the Delta oil-producing region said on Monday, November 6, that the federal government is ready to meet with militants after a year-long ceasefire was called off last week by the Niger Delta Avengers.

Usani said: ''If the Avengers wants to meet with us, we are ready to meet with them. We are at all times ready to engage them and other groups and stakeholders.”

Meanwhile, New Telegraph reports that Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA) in collaboration with nine other militant groups stated categorically that high command of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) is no other person than Tompolo.

According to a statement signed by Johnmark Ezonebi the leader of the group, "Tompolo who is presently under a wanted list was hiding in the creek for sins against the region by using the struggle to empower himself and his immediate family and few cronies."

The group has indicated its willingness to reveal the whereabouts of Tompolo to federal authorities.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Chief Edwin Clark, the national leader of Pan Niger Delta Forum and other Niger Delta leaders on Sunday, November 5, appealed to Niger Delta Avengers to end its threat to recommence bombing of oil facilities in the region.

Chief Clark slammed the federal government for creating doubts and suspicion in the minds of people and militants with its sloppy handling of the 16-point demand of PANDEF submitted to President Buhari, on November 1.
