Residents of Ikorodu cry out over generator fume from RCCG

- Residents of Ikorodu have cried out over poisonous fumes emanating from a church in the area

- The group claimed to have complained to the management of the church with no improvement

- They urged the society to come to their aid and persuade the church to do something about the smoke

Residents of Oke-Olugunna Close, Jumofak, Ikorodu, Lagos state have cried out over the pollution caused by fumes from the generator of a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) located in the residential area.

The residents claimed that the fume is unhealthy and all efforts to get the management of the church to look into the matter has proved abortive.

In a letter exclusively sent to Legit.ng by the residents, they claimed that the church has refused to move the generating set to a better place where the fume will not endanger the lives of the residents.

The letter reads: "It is with great pain in my heart that I write you this mail.

"We are neighbours to RCCG, Covenant of Peace, 38/40 Lowa Street, Jumofak, Ikorodu, Lagos, aggressively tormented by the deadly smoke emitted into our compound and apartments by either of their heavy duty generators whenever in use, daily or each time a service or programme is going.

"Series of complaints and meetings have been held between us and their 'unChristlike' and 'unpastoral' pastors'. One even asked some weeks ago that our complaints is too much and meant nothing to them. Right now, we believe the church has lost every godliness and humaneness by their utmost act of 'I don't Care Attitude' and wickedness towards us as their neighbours, who have every right to our privacy, unpolluted air and existence.

"Attached is a recent picture of smoke coming our from their generator and moving unhindered into our compound and eventually, into our apartments. This is unbecoming of a house of God.

"Please, save our souls; generator smoke have been reported to have killed families in this country on several occasions.

"Kindly ask that they relocate their generators to the front of the church where the smoke can easily filter into the major road and vanish into the air or they should re-channel the exhaust pipes of their generators into their compound properly."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the archbishop emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Cardinal Anthony Olubunmi Okogie, has condemned the plan by the General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, to build new church branches.

Okogie, in an interview said most of these churches are nothing but business centres and the nation does not need more of them.

He argued that more church buildings will only add to the problem the nation is facing.
