The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), founded in 1978, is the umbrella body for trade unions in Nigeria, representing workers’ interests across sectors.

Headquartered in Abuja, it unites over 40 affiliate unions, advocating for better wages, working conditions, and social justice.

The NLC engages in collective bargaining, organizes strikes, and influences labor policies.

It played a key role in minimum wage negotiations, securing ₦70,000 in 2024.

The NLC also addresses national issues like fuel subsidy removal and economic reforms, often clashing with the government.

Despite internal divisions and criticism for political alignments, it remains a powerful voice for workers’ rights.

The NLC collaborates with global unions like ITUC and conducts training to empower workers.

Its motto, “Labour Creates Wealth,” underscores its mission to promote economic fairness and workers’ welfare.
