Spain's Carlos Alcaraz beat Italian Jannik Sinner in a four-set thriller to win his second US Open men’s singles final at Flushing Meadows in New York on Sunday evening, September 7.

Alcaraz won 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, to reclaim the title he first won in 2022, and his sixth Grand Slam title, to make him the second youngest man after Bjorn Borg.

The encounter between both players is their fifth final of the 2025 season, ending the Italian's 27-match winning run.

The 22-year-old lost to Sinner 6-4, 4-6, 4-6, 4-6 at the Wimbledon final last July.

The match was witnessed by top dignitaries, including US President Donald Trump, Stephen Curry, Bruce Springsteen, Tommy Hilfiger, and Michael Douglas, among others, per Sky Sports.

Alcaraz replaces Sinner as World No. 1

Carlos Alcaraz has been ranked World number 1 in the men's category following his triumph against Jannik Sinner at the US Open.

Alcaraz ends the reign of Sinner after a 65-week reign and 27 games unbeaten.

According to BBC, the 22-year-old said he sees the Italian as more than his family, and they both have a great season together. He said:

"I want to start with Jannik (Sinner), it's unbelievable what you're doing the whole season, great level during every tournament that you're playing.
"I'm seeing you more than my family, it is great sharing the same court, locker room and everything with you."

Canadian singer Drake has lost ₦451m ($300,000) after staking a bet on Italian Jannik Sinner to win the US Open.

In a post on IG, the 38-year-old took a bold step following Sinner's triumph against Alexander Bublik in the Round of 16.

The rapper also lost his bet in 2024 after throwing his weight behind American player Taylor Fritz, who eventually lost to Italy's Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinals.

Drake lost ₦451m ($300,000) during the 2024 Copa America when Argentina beat Canada in the semifinal.
