He continued at Bayer Leverkusen until the end of the season and had an offer to join AC Milan on a season-long loan with an option to make the move permanent.
The move also collapsed after Milan detected a possible recurrence of a knee problem, having suffered two ACL injuries in his young career.
German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen took a gamble and signed him on loan for the rest of the season, but the risk did not pay off from the get-go.
Boniface struggled for form initially before suffering a knee injury that was expected to rule him out of the season, forcing him to return to Leverkusen.

“Victor will train individually for the remainder of this week. We will then slowly ease him back into team training, in the hopes that he might be able to feature again before the end of the season,” the club's statement reads.
The striker spoke after his first return to the grass in a video shared on Instagram by Werder Bremen, expressing his delight at returning to the pitch again.
