Manchester United Reportedly Shortlists 3 Managers To Replace Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford

  • Former England manager Gareth Southgate is back in contention as Manchester United explores new managerial options
  • Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola have also been named on Man United’s three-man shortlist to replace Ruben Amorim
  • Manchester United owners remain cautious, preferring to wait until after November 1 before making a decision

Manchester United’s struggles under Ruben Amorim have reached a tipping point as reports claim the Red Devils have drawn up a three-man shortlist to potentially replace the Portuguese manager.

Amorim has been unable to deliver consistent results since taking charge at Old Trafford in November 2024, with the Red Devils failing to win back-to-back league matches and collecting just 34 points from 33 Premier League games.

According to talkSPORT, Manchester United’s board, led by minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has already identified three possible successors to replace Amorim.

Former England boss Gareth Southgate, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, and Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola are the three coaches currently being considered as the next Red Devils manager.

Southgate back on Man United’s radar

Gareth Southgate is once again being considered for the Old Trafford hot seat.

Manchester United reportedly approached the 54-year-old before appointing Amorim last year, but Southgate was not ready to leave the England job at the time.

In recent weeks, fresh contact has reportedly been made with Southgate as the Red Devils’ form continues to slide.

With Amorim losing four of Manchester United’s first seven matches in all competitions this season, pressure has intensified, and the club is exploring new managerial options already.

Managers on Man United’s shortlist

Aside from Southgate, Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner and Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola are also said to be on Manchester United’s radar.

Glasner, who led Crystal Palace to win the FA Cup and Community Shield, has earned praise for his tactical organisation and ability to get the best out of limited resources, while Iraola has impressed with his attacking philosophy at Bournemouth.

Both managers fit the profile of younger, progressive coaches, something that aligns with Ratcliffe’s vision for Manchester United’s long-term plan.

Despite the pressure, sources insist Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen to give Amorim a full season before making a final judgment.

According to the BBC, Ratcliffe reportedly believes the Portuguese coach deserves time to build a squad that fully reflects his philosophy.

However, Manchester United’s position in the bottom half of the table and the fans’ growing frustration are putting the Red Devils in a tight spot.

Reports suggest the board may wait until after November 1 to make a decision, as doing so would significantly reduce the £12 million compensation package owed if Amorim is sacked now.

Amorim has previously stated he would leave without demanding a payoff if the club lost faith in him. Still, Manchester United’s leadership is reluctant to make a premature call and risk further instability.
