According to Daily Mail, the former defender insisted that the goalkeeper poses a major threat to the team if not addressed.

The two-time UEFA Champions League winner explained that the club had witnessed instability in the goalkeeping section in the past before Peter Schmeichel and Edwin Van der Sar rescued the club. He said:

"In Manchester United, we have a glaring issue that cannot be ignored. This is why the club needs to find a new goalkeeper. They have to, I am absolutely unequivocal on that.
"As an ex-player, I gathered 20 years of experience with the club, where there were two big periods of seven or eight years with Peter Schmeichel and Edwin Van der Sar, and in between, the club had seven or eight goalkeepers in a seven or eight-year period before gaining stability."

According to Sky Sports, the 50-year-old believes that these two players can solve the current problem in the team.

The former England captain said Donnarumma and Martinez can play under pressure having competed at the World Cup and European final. He said:

"In my opinion, the duo of Gianluigi Donnarumma and Emiliano Martinez has personalities and characters. We have all seen in European final for Italy, saving penalties and looking like a giant; we have also seen him play for Paris Saint-Germain in big games under pressure.
"For Martinez, he won a World Cup, playing under pressure and having a big personality and the arrogance of an elite goalkeeper."
