Italian giants Inter Milan approached Atalanta with a €45 million offer, which was swiftly rejected, much to the annoyance of the attacker.
He published a statement on social media confirming he had submitted a transfer request after the club turned down what he thinks is a fair offer.
The club responded to his claims via CEO Luca Percassi, clarifying that the agreement was to transfer him to clubs outside Italy, so as not to strengthen a direct rival, and their demand was in the region of €60 million.
Lookman has skipped training since making the public statement, as he and the club consider legal action to resolve the transfer dispute between them.
His recent behaviour has infuriated the club and sparked a reaction from the fans, who are highly disappointed at how he has turned out.
Nigerian football fans backed their top player and referenced Napoli's treatment of Victor Osimhen as a reason for Lookman to stand his ground.
