Diego Maradona's brain surgery was a success and the Argentine legend is currently recovering, according to his personal doctor Leopoldo Luque, Goal.

The entire world was thrown in fear as it was announced that the recently clocked 60-year-old was going under the knife for a subdural haematoma.

The 1986 World Cup winner was admitted to Ipensa clinic due to concerns over anemia and dehydration, before he was transferred to another hospital in Buenos Aires.

Fans gathered outside the hospital treating Maradona's brain clot to show support for the legendary midfielder.

Maradona's person doctor Luque said:

"I was able to evacuate the hematoma successfully and Diego tolerated the surgery very well.
"But the start of his recovery was great. The way he reacted after the surgery is promising."

Maradona has had a history of health issues after his playing career one of which was having a gastric bypass surgery twice after becoming overweight.

The Napoli legend also had internal bleeding in his stomach with his daughter Gianinna raising fears that his coaching career was always on social media.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported Diego Maradona is edging closer to his 60th birthday and the football icon wishes to score another 'hand of God' goal against England, Talk Sport.

The Argentine legend scored with his hand during their quarter-final clash against the Three Lions at Mexico 86' World Cup.
