Turkish giants Fenerbahce have confirmed that Portuguese tactician Jose Mourinho has been sacked from his role as manager.

The Portuguese tactician was appointed in June 2024 and was tasked to guide them to win the Super Lig title for the first time in more than a decade.

However, he failed in his quest for the league title as they finished fourth for a fourth season in succession.

They won 26 and drew six of their 36 league matches and ended up with 90 points, even though that was not enough to guide them to the prize.

After finishing second last season, Fenerbache qualified for the Champions League third qualifying round, GOAL reports.

They edged out Dutch club Feyenoord with a 6-4 aggregate win and were drawn against Benfica in the play-off for a ticket to the league phase of the UEFA Champions League.

However, they could not scale through as they lost 1-0 on aggregate in an intense clash with the Portuguese club on Wednesday night.

After the game, the club's hierarchy decided to axe the 62-year-old. A club statement read:

"Our Professional Football First Team's technical director, Jose Mourinho, who has been carrying out his duties starting from the 2024-2025 season, has parted ways with us.
"We thank him for his efforts for our team until today and wish him success in his future career."

Amorim was appointed to take over at Old Trafford in December, as he took over from Erik ten Hag.

It's been a dismal performance for the Red Devils as they slumped to 15th in the Premier League table and lost in the Europa League final to Tottenham.

They spent heavily during the summer transfer window, bringing in strikers, even though fans call for the goalkeeping position to be addressed.

Supporters of the Premier League club are also calling for a new central midfielder to be signed, despite that they are unable to offload high earners like players Jadon Sancho, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia.
