FCT, Abuja - FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has said a large "rainbow coalition" drawing political figures from across party lines is forming to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Wike said Adeleke's arrival in Abuja was not a routine engagement but part of the broader movement of political figures gravitating towards Tinubu ahead of the election.

As reported by The Punch, he stated this on Friday, August 21, 2026, while addressing reporters about the political significance of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke's recent trip to the capital.

Adeleke's visit and 2027 realignment

He explained that Adeleke had contested the August 15 Osun governorship election on the Accord Party platform because of internal disputes within the Peoples Democratic Party, but that his roots remained firmly within the PDP structure.

"Adeleke ran on the Accord Party platform due to internal wranglings within the Peoples Democratic Party. He remains deeply rooted in the PDP structure and is now fully committed to supporting the president ahead of 2027."

The minister described Adeleke's alignment as one of several expected moves in the coming weeks, saying more politicians from different parties and regions would join the coalition before the election.

Wike says opposition weakened

Wike argued that the crises gripping major opposition parties had left them unable to mount a credible challenge against the president.

He specifically mentioned former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi as figures being kept off balance by the shifting political landscape.

Peter Obi resigned from the African Democratic Congress on May 2, 2026, and was ratified as the presidential candidate of the NDC on May 29, 2026, for the 2027 general elections.

Wike said he had no concern about the unease these developments were causing political opponents, maintaining that the direction of the 2027 contest was already becoming clear.

He insisted that no single opposition force had the cohesion required to present a serious alternative to Tinubu's re-election.

The minister added that further cross-party movement was expected in the weeks ahead as the political climate ahead of 2027 continues to shift.
