  • Governors reaffirmed support for the 101st NEC resolutions, urging members to resist anti-party efforts and uphold PDP as a democratic alternative

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum on Saturday, August 23, cautioned Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and others against interfering with the party’s national convention, scheduled for November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo state.

In a communiqué issued at the end of its 7th meeting in Gusau, Zamfara state, the governors reaffirmed their unwavering support for the resolutions of the 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in July 2025.

It added:

“It urges members to resist all attempts to derail the convention by anti-party forces, and to see the PDP as the only democratic institution and viable alternative for restoring Nigeria along the path of good governance and national development.”

Forum highlights party resilience and national concerns

Chaired by the Forum’s Chairman and Bauchi state Governor, Bala Mohammed, the meeting discussed the state of the nation, rising insecurity, erosion of democratic values, and preparations for the party’s forthcoming convention, Vanguard reported.

The governors also commended PDP leaders and members for overcoming orchestrated defections, emphasising that such distractions cannot diminish the party’s grassroots appeal or Nigerians’ aspirations for affordable living and relative security.

The communiqué further accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of divisive governance that has imposed hardships on citizens.

Wike warned that a fresh crisis could emerge if the PDP refused to recognise the zonal congress that elected his ally, Dan Orbih, as National Vice Chairman, South-South.

“Well, it is over for now. A few things remain, and I have told them they must do it. Our congress was held in Calabar, and there’s nothing anybody can tell us.
“In that congress, Chief Dan Orbih emerged as the National Vice Chairman. If they don’t agree, that’s another round of crisis," Wike said.

The minister also rejected the zoning committee led by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri. His former ally, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, has since parted ways with Wike, and party members have blamed the FCT minister for alleged anti-party activities, which he has denied.
