Titilayo explained that she is a businesswoman who sells ladies’ wear like nightwear and lingerie.

She was contacted by a woman on WhatsApp who expressed interest in buying nightwear.

Titilayo narrates her WhatsApp conversation

On the 16th of October 2025, she explained that she got a message on WhatsApp from someone she thought was a customer who wanted to buy from her.

The woman explained that she was chatting with her husband’s phone and urged Titilayo to come to a location, but she declined. However, the woman insisted on meeting Titilayo at a particular place.

Titilayo explained:

"About the SIM card incident, it happened on the 16th of October 2025. A number texted my business WhatsApp which I use for selling goods."
"The goods I sell are nightwear, so I was asked to send photos of the ones I have, and I did. She picked two out of them and later told me she was using her husband’s phone to chat me because her phone was bad."

Titilayo meets with the ‘customer’

After a series of back-and-forths, she finally met with the woman. Upon seeing her, she noticed that the woman had a bigger body size, and the nightwear would not fit her. She tried to explain this and show her other options, but while doing so, a man walked up to her and introduced himself as a police officer.

She continued:

"I gave her the location of my estate gate and told her to call me when she got there. A few minutes later, she called to say she was at the junction. When I got there, I saw them seated.
"When I saw her, she looked big, and the nightwear I had with me could not fit her, so I removed it and showed her. While she was checking it, a man walked up to me and showed me his ID card, saying he is a police officer."

"She was checking the photos of the nightwear on my phone, so I collected the ones I had already brought out and packed them back."

Titilayo gets arrested by police officer

The woman who chatted with her on WhatsApp was actually a police officer who pretended to be a customer to meet her.

After successfully doing this, Titilayo was placed under arrest just as she was trying to arrange another suitable nightwear for her.

She explained:

"When I was packing up, she brought out her ID card and said she is also a police officer and that I’m under arrest."

Titilayo sees phone number in record book

At the station, the police explained to Titilayo that her number had been used by kidnappers to demand ransom from a victim. The sum of 50 million naira was paid, and the victim was later killed.

She said:

"They brought out some books, about two, and I saw my numbers there along with locations of everywhere I’ve been to. I asked what I did, and they said they had been tracking the number since last year.

"I told them that the SIM card is not inside my phone but inside my MiFi, and I use it to connect to my phone. Secondly, I just got the SIM card this year, so how could they have been tracking it since last year?"

Titilayo gets bail from the police station

After her arrest, Titilayo contacted her lawyer, who advised the police to visit the network provider’s office to verify her claims about the SIM card.

At the office, records showed she was telling the truth, as the SIM card was registered in 2025, a year after the kidnapping incident.

She explained:

"They didn’t believe me, and I was scared. I was crying and begging God.
"That same night, my lawyer told the police we should go to the network provider’s office to confirm. When we got there, they asked for my NIN and phone number. I gave them, and a few minutes later, it showed on their system that I bought and registered the SIM card on the 15th of April 2025.
