"The Truth": Woman Who Claimed She Sat Next to Viral Passenger on Ibom Air Shares What She Saw

Olubunmi Balogun Shonubi, a woman who claimed she sat beside the embattled Ibom Air passenger Comfort Emmanson, has given her account of what she witnessed.

Comfort, accused of assaulting Ibom Air crew members and airport officials during her flight from Uyo to Lagos on Sunday, 10 August, has been remanded in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos.

Ibom Air: Comfort's seatmate on flight speaks

Narrating what she saw in the Facebook comment section of one Princess, Olubunmi said that Comfort looked like a call girl when she entered the plane.

She narrated that the air hostess, who was later slapped, was very polite and helpful during the flight, and even told Comfort to turn off her phone before takeoff.

However, after she left, Olubunmi said another air hostess came to Comfort and spoke harshly to her.

She said that Comfort explained that the button on her iPhone was not functioning, hence, she could not turn it off.

The unidentified hostess replied Comfort that her phone does not need a button to be turned off and further advised her to check her settings.

When Comfort replied that she could not do it herself as she was illiterate, the air hostess refused to touch her phone and threatened to kick the passenger off the flight. Olubunmi's account read:

"Funny enough, I was on this flight and this babe sat right next to me across the aisle. We were on the emergency row.

"When she came in, u could tell she was a runs girl whose hustle was paying her small small. One of the air hostesses (the one slapped) was very polite and helpful during the flight and came and told the girl to switch off her phone for take off, etc.
"After she left, one other witch of a air hostess came and really spoke down on this girl. The girl told her the button on her phone for switch off was not working.
"The woman replied that it is an iPhone and does not need a button. The girl said she does not know how to do it. The woman told her to go to settings etc etc.
"The girl said pls take my phone and do it. I cannot read. I am not literate. The woman said I don't have time for your nonsense. I am not touching your phone bla bla bla..."

She continued:

"At that point, the guy sitting next to her and myself and the guy next to me had to intervene and the guy next to her took her phones to help her. The woman then started threatening her to kick her off the flight etc.
"At this point, other passengers not knowing the truth of what happened started shouting at the girl, then we the other seat mates had to defend her that the air hostess treated her so badly bcos she was female. It wldnt hv bin the case if it was a male passenger. Then everything calmed down and we left.
"It was at that point that the girl, having been humiliated, started abusing other passengers. We wey defend her com dey shame. Nobody answered her sha, and I calmed her down but throughout the flight she was talking on the matter with the guy right next to her.

In a related story, Legit.ng reported that a man who was on the same Ibom Air plane with the remanded passenger, Comfort Emmanson, had narrated what happened.

Ibom Air incident: Man faults airline

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a man faulted Ibom Air over its handling of the viral incident involving Comfort Emmanson.

Reacting to the incident, he stated that Ibom Air was his favourite airline but noted that the staff were not well trained to handle a crisis.

On his X page, the man mentioned three things that could have been done differently during the incident.
