European-American university disowns fake Abuja ceremony
The university's sharp rebuke came hours after multiple Nigerian press outlets published reports and videos showing a convocation ceremony where Rarara and others were celebrated as new honorary degree recipients.
In a strongly-worded statement released on September 20, 2025, the university declared the conferment in Nigeria as fraudulent.
“The University has not authorized any convocation to be held in this location today, and this event has been organized fraudulently without the knowledge or consent of the University.”
“The persons behind the event appear to have deceived others into believing they represented European-American University, but this was entirely false and they had no authority to do so, nor to take money on behalf of the University,” the statement added.
Legal action looms over fraudulent degree claims
The university explicitly confirmed that Dauda Kahutu Rarara has not been conferred with any honorary doctorate.

The drama deepened as the university also took action against individuals named in the press reports.
Meanwhile, the institution revoked the appointment of Idris Aliyu, who was cited as representing the Vice-Chancellor.
The university stated that Aliyu’s professorial fellowship was revoked with immediate effect for his involvement with this fraudulent activity.
Furthermore, the university disowned Musari Audu Isyaku, identified in reports as the Northern Nigeria representative, stating that he has no authority to represent the institution.
The statement also served as a correction on the university's leadership and status, identifying Professor Luca Scotto di Tella de’ Douglas di Castel di Ripa as the current Vice-Chancellor and denying its legal base is in Dominica and Panama, as reported.
The European-American University concluded by vowing to contact Nigerian legal authorities to stop the issuing of fake University certificates and ensure the organizers face the full force of the law.
