Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as guests fled in panic amid the sound of gunfire. A viral video circulating online captured the moment attendees scrambled for safety, with EFCC operatives reportedly seizing over 20 luxury vehicles and other valuable items.
Sources indicated that the operation was conducted by EFCC personnel from the Lagos Directorate. The raid came just five days after a similar operation by the Ibadan Zonal Directorate at K-Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro, where 55 suspects were apprehended. Among them was an individual allegedly found in possession of two locally-made pistols.
Internet fraud crackdown intensifies in Ogun state
The EFCC has intensified its crackdown on suspected cybercrime activities in Ogun State, with recent operations targeting hospitality venues believed to host gatherings of internet fraud suspects. The raid at OOPL marks the second major operation in the state within a week.
An X user, A.Ayomide, recounted his experience on social media, saying:
“Literally left my house past midnight to go to OOPL, got there and the crowd was too much. I don’t like the settings, my guy doesn’t like the settings, so we were just at the car park. Left around 1:30, 20 minutes later I get home and I’m getting calls that EFCC is raiding OOPL.”
EFCC and OOPL management respond to raid
Vitalis Ortese, Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, confirmed the incident but refrained from providing further details.
“Yes, they did. There was an incident this morning. We will find out and we will let you know,” he told PUNCH.
When contacted, Ayo Oyewole, spokesperson for the Lagos zonal command of the EFCC, stated he was not yet aware of the operation but promised to follow up. Similarly, EFCC’s national spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said he would confirm the details and revert to the correspondent.
The EFCC has yet to release an official statement regarding the number of arrests or the items recovered during the raid. However, the operation underscores the agency’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on cybercrime across Nigeria.
