Actor Bucci Franklin Opens Up on Growing Up Without a Father: “I Saw Shege With Women”

Nollywood actor Bucci Franklin has shared an emotional account of how growing up without a father figure shaped his life.
He admitted that it led him down a dangerous path as a teenager.
Speaking on the WithChude podcast, Franklin clarified that while his father was alive, he was absent throughout his formative years.

That absence, he explained, created a void that left him vulnerable.
He gave maximum respect to single mothers, including his own, but stressed that raising boys without some form of male guidance is particularly tough.
“As a kid, I had my woman shege. Like I said, it is not easy to be a single parent. She had to go to work. I had mates. Not having a father figure is quite difficult. You need a man in your life. If you do not want to get married, you need a brother. You just need a father figure for those boys. It is easy for girls as a mother. But for a boy, an African boy, a Nigerian boy, an Igbo boy… it is not easy.”

Franklin slipping into bad habits
Without guidance, Franklin admitted that he got entangled in drinking, smoking, and chasing girls at a very young age.
He confessed:
“(I was into) girls. Drugs. And by drugs, I am saying cigarettes. Drinking beer at a very young age. Coming back completely wasted,” he confessed.
The role of Franklin's mother
Despite the struggles, Franklin said his mother, Mrs Joy, was the anchor that kept him from losing himself completely.
He stated:
“The man that I am today, and that I would continue to be, is because of Mrs Joy,” he declared, paying tribute to her sacrifices.
He admitted he once hated the mention of his name, but over time, he learned to let go of the resentment.
Though his father never gave a reason for abandoning him, Franklin says he has moved past the pain and simply honours him as a human being.

Nigerian women aren't loved - Franklin
Legit.ng earlier reported that Bucci Franklin had a few words to get off his chest and it appears to have caused a buzzed on social media.
The Rattlesnake star in one of his Instastory post opined that Nigerian women aren't loved enough as he advised men to do better.
While some people - mostly ladies - agreed with him, others felt his take was false as most Nigerian women define love by how much a man can spend on them.
