Why Jada did not expect Will to refer to her as wife

Jada Pinkett Smith is on tour of her latest memoir, Worthy, and is dropping bombshell upon bombshell.

The Red Table Talk host said she was surprised when Will referred to her as his wife during the infamous Oscar slap.

Nicknamed one of Hollywood's golden boys, the father of three was loved and could do no wrong on camera before 2022.

"Keep my wife's name out your f**** mouth," he said.

However, Will apologised to his fans and Chris Rock, noting that what he did was in bad taste.

Reacting to the incident nearly a year later, Jada noted that she was surprised that he called her his wife.

She told NBC News:

"First of all, I’m really shocked, because mind you, I’m not there. We haven’t called each other husband and wife in a long time.”

Are Jada Pinkett and Will Smith working on divorce?

The mother of two had previously disclosed via Legit.ng that she and Will had separated, but they did not file for divorce.

Jada noted that they have been living separate lives since 2016.

“We’re still figuring it out. We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got a deep love for each other, and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us," she said in the interview promoting her upcoming memoir, Worthy.

She also said that while considering a legal divorce, she hasn't been able to bring herself to it.

"I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. I haven't been able to break that promise," the 52-year-old said.

Jada also opened up about the factors contributing to the fracture in their relationship.

"I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be," she revealed.
