Little Hands, Big Flavors: Meet the Crowned Champions of KidsCook Showdown 2.0!

If you have ever tried to turn a smooth, lump-free pot of semolina over a hot stove, you know it takes serious forearm strength, timing, and focus. Now, imagine putting that wooden spatula into the hands of an eight-year-old with a live audience watching and a kitchen clock ticking down.

Sounds impossible? This past weekend, the contestants of KidsCook Showdown 2.0 proved that they are not too small after all.

Organized by Dominion Consultancy Concepts, the second edition of the KidsCook Showdown brought together 20 children aged 6 to 8 from ten Lagos public primary schools, in partnership with Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB).

Damilare Adeniran and Gold Obi Besong cooked their way straight to the top of the competition, claiming the first-place trophy for their school, Pastor Adegboyega Nursery and Primary School, Ketu.

The second edition saw schools battle it out across two distinct culinary categories: Jollof spaghetti and the ultimate test of indigenous kitchen technique, Semolina with Egusi or Okra Soup (Ila-Alasepo) and Eba.

Damilare and Gold’s technique, cleanliness, courage, presentation, and teamwork won over the three-judge panel, earning them the highest cumulative score of the day.

They were closely followed by the brilliant runners-up from Aina Memorial Primary and Nursery School, Agiliti, while Oke-Ifako Nursery and Primary School, Gbagada, took home a very well-deserved third place.

This edition was proudly supported by Ribena, Zuri Seasoning, Channels TV, and TheCable.

For Mrs. Enitan Tanimowo, Director of Dominion Consultancy Concepts, KidsCook Showdown is more than a cooking competition; it’s a program designed to inspire children to see cooking not just as a chore, but as a fun, creative way to develop themselves, learn discipline, and build confidence and these skills help them into the future.

“When we first started this program in 2025, the general reaction was, ‘What can these children do? After all, they are too small,” Mrs. Tanimowo shared. “But we found out that these children can do incredible things. They are not babies. What we did this weekend was prove that our children will rise to the occasion if we simply trust them with the responsibility.”

The program addresses a quiet crisis in modern parenting. In an era where children are increasingly kept busy with screens, fundamental life skills that are learnt through doing chores are taking a back seat, and these skills are crucial for adulthood.

As Mrs. Tanimowo pointed out, there is a direct, research-backed link between a child who does house chores and excellent academic performance. At age 6, a child's brain is going through the cognitive development stage; teaching them the step-by-step discipline of a recipe teaches their brain how to plan, solve problems, and finish a task.

KidsCook Showdown supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health & Well-being) and Goal 4 (Quality Education). Furthermore, it plants the earliest seeds of entrepreneurship as starting house chores early helps children develop problem-solving and leadership skills.

With Season 2.0 officially wrapped, Dominion Consultancy Concepts is aiming to impact more children and families through other editions.
