Through a collection of memorable objects, technology, cultural references and interactive displays, the exhibition captured key moments from the company’s journey while highlighting how mobile communication has transformed everyday life in Nigeria.
For MTN Nigeria, the museum was designed not simply as a display of corporate milestones but as an opportunity for Nigerians to look back at how far the country has come and imagine what the future could hold.
A journey shaped by Nigeria’s transformation
MTN Nigeria began operations in 2001, entering a market undergoing significant economic, social, and technological changes.
Over the past 25 years, the company has experienced periods of growth and uncertainty alongside Nigerians, while witnessing major shifts in consumer behaviour, technology and the way people communicate, work and conduct business.
The evolution from early mobile phones and basic communication services to today’s digital ecosystem reflects a broader transformation in Nigerian society.
The Y’ello Street Museum brought some of those changes to life by presenting objects and experiences associated with different periods of MTN Nigeria’s journey.
Visitors were encouraged to identify familiar items from the company’s past, turning the exhibition into an interactive experience that connected technology with personal memories.
More than phones and technology
For many visitors, the exhibits represented more than old devices or communication tools. They brought back memories of an era when mobile phones were beginning to reshape how Nigerians stayed in touch.
The objects also reflected changing lifestyles, the rise of digital services and the growing role of connectivity in everyday life.
Over the years, mobile connectivity has helped families communicate across distances, enabled businesses to reach customers, supported entrepreneurs and opened new opportunities for millions of Nigerians.
Behind every call, message, transaction and digital interaction are individual stories that collectively form part of Nigeria’s transformation.
That shared experience gives MTN Nigeria’s 25th anniversary a significance beyond a corporate milestone.
Looking ahead after 25 years
The anniversary comes at a time when Nigeria continues to navigate economic pressures and other challenges. Yet the country’s story is also defined by creativity, resilience, ambition and the determination of its people to build opportunities.
As the Y’ello Street Museum closes, MTN Nigeria said the memories created through the exhibition will remain part of its Silver Jubilee story.

The closure marks the end of the physical exhibition, but not the journey it represents. Instead, it offers a moment to reflect on the changes of the past quarter-century while looking ahead to the possibilities.
