Ethiopian Airlines Expands Abuja Routes with 3 New Weekly Flights

Ethiopian Airlines, the biggest airline in Africa, plans to increase flights to the Nigerian capital starting on October 28, 2025, in an effort to support the expanding trend of Abuja emerging as a significant location for international conferences and meetings.

In order to give customers more choices and convenience, the airline said on Wednesday that it would add three extra weekly flights to its daily schedule now departing from Abuja.

The additional flights will connect to a number of African and Asian locations, such as Dubai and Addis Ababa, departing from Abuja at 10 p.m. and arriving in Addis Ababa at 5 a.m.
Ethiopian Airlines' Area Manager in Nigeria, Mrs. Firiehiwot Mekonnen, claims that the additional flights will offer greater advantages in addition to more possibilities.
“Passengers will enjoy more baggage allowance on certain routes, including Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Madras, and Dubai,” Mekonnen said.
“You can also get double miles if you fly with us,” she added. The airline’s loyalty program will reward its frequent passengers with extra benefits.
While the additional evening flights will provide passengers with more alternatives and flexibility, the daily midday flight will stay the same. Additionally, passengers will be able to connect to numerous Asian and African locations with fewer hours of total journey time thanks to the additional flights.
Mekonnen emphasized that the extra flights are intended to lower traveler costs and enhance service performance.

“Most of our passengers will now reach their destinations faster,” she said. Operating the newest aircraft in the world, such as the A350-1000 and B787 Dreamliner, Ethiopian Airlines has been catering to the Nigerian market since 1960.

The airline has established itself as a significant force in the aviation sector by connecting Abuja, Lagos, Enugu, and Kano with more than 150 international locations.
Leadership reported that Ethiopian Airlines' new flights will help the country's Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events (MICE) industry, which is predicted to grow as a result of the Nigerian government's recent reopening of the Abuja International Conference Centre.
New foreign airline begins operation in Nigeria
Legit.ng reported that Sierra Leon’s national carrier, Air Sierra Leone, has commenced flight operations from Freetown to Lagos as part of its plans to grow its Africa operations.
The airline also announced a technical collaboration with Nigeria’s Xejet to provide it with aircraft for its operations.
Air Sierra Leone marked its inaugural flight to Lagos on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, with about 36 passengers aboard its 50-seat capacity aircraft.
