Speaking to Platts, a division of S&P Global Commodity Insights, Edwin explained that operations were temporarily paused for short-term maintenance, prompting the refinery to halt petrol deliveries earlier this month.
On August 1, the facility advised marketers to stop payments for fuel loading, but sales resumed after a week, according to Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) President, Abubakar Garima.
Another Dangote source told Platts that loading of petrol, diesel, and jet fuel is ongoing alongside new crude supplies.
Edwin described the work as routine preventive maintenance, stressing that the unit will be fully operational before August 18.
Edwin said:
“This is just part of regular maintenance activity. We do predictive maintenance, preventative maintenance and routine maintenance.”
He dismissed reports of a planned 40-day shutdown in December, noting that Nigeria’s petrol demand peaks toward year-end.
Legit.ng recently reported that David Bird was appointed CEO of the refinery to lead its production increase, port upgrades, and storage expansions in Namibia and beyond.
The founder and chairman of Dangote Industries Limited had also resigned from his chairmanship of his cement and sugar subsidiary to concentrate on the refinery.

In a statement issued by its Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, the company stressed that truck loading and production activities remain fully operational.
According to the refinery, recent reports suggesting an operational halt are unfounded, and the ongoing sale of Residual Catalytic Oil is simply part of routine commercial activities, which sometimes involve large-scale transactions such as fuel oil tenders.
Management further noted that, alongside petrol, regular deliveries of diesel are also being maintained without disruption.
