Two Fleeing Kidnappers Arrested In Ebonyi

Two suspected kidnappers have been arrested by Policemen of the Department of Criminal Investigation, Ogun State Police Command, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

The suspects, Kingson Sunday and August Johnson were arrested in Ebonyi State, where they reportedly fled to, after kidnapping two siblings, Tolulope Kosoko (9) and Omodolapo Kosoko (7), from the Ijebu Ode area on July 8.

According to Punch report, one of the suspects, Sunday, a teacher and a friend of the family, usually dropped and pick up the children from school.

On that fateful day, after picking the children from their school, Imperial International School, Molipa, Ijebu Ode in Ogun state, he did not return but rather abducted the children and fled to Ebonyi State. After which, he contacted the girls' parents, demanding for a N500,000 ransom, for their release. He also sent the account details of his accomplice, Johnson who is a teacher residing at Ohaozara in Ebonyi to the parents.

Unfortunately, they were arrested as they attempted to withdraw the money.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said that N150,000 was deposited in the account by the police and as the suspects were making efforts to withdraw the money, they were arrested with the help of the police informants placed on surveillance in Ebonyi State.

He said the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, commended his men, adding that the parents of the rescued victims are full of joy and are grateful for the effort of the police in rescuing their children.

He however urged the public to always keep their children in the hands of trusted friends.

Kidnapping is becoming rampant in various parts of the country. Recently, 34 children were rescued from the hands of the kidnappers in Okunzu community located not far from Asaba while 2 of the suspects were killed in the operation.

Last week, the Lagos police reportedly rescued a 10-year-old boy from the hands of kidnappers and arrested one of the suspects.
