According to SaharaReporters, hundreds of the Dambua residents were said to have fled to Biu and Maiduguri following the attack on the military base by the sect.

Communication with Damboa residents are currently very difficult as GSM services have been cut off from the area for months following the incessant attacks of the militants on telecommunication facilities.

The Borno State Police Command PPRO, Gideon Jubrin, however, confirmed yesterday’s attack saying: "There was an attack in Damboa but we haven't got details from the area yet. I can't tell you anything for now."

Damboa town is 85km south of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

Meanwhile, more than 50 terrorists, who were reportedly armed with anti-aircraft guns, Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, rocket propelled launchers, were killed in a gun battle with the ground troops and the Airforce fighter jets.

The suspected Boko Haram sect members have turned the killing of innocent civilians to a regular practice. Less than five days ago, a bomb explosion occurred in Maiduguri, Borno State, which left 18 people and 55 severally injured.

On June 25, in a similar attack, which occurred at a military block-post, Bulabulin Ngaura in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, the suspected Boko Haram terrorists killed about 16 soldiers.

Boko Haram sect members have continued to carry out their massacres in Borno State. It was reported earlier today that five people. including a police officer, were killed in a suicide bomb explosion in Konduga town, Borno on July 4.
