Chibok Girls Abducted Because They Are Christians – CAN

In response to the new video released by Boko Haram on May 12, claiming that the abducted Chibok girls were converted to Islam, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) said it is war against Christianity, Today reports.

Explaining the reason behind the kidnap through the CAN national director of research at the conference in Kaduna, the Association president, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, stated:

"It is simple, because they are Christians and they represent the Church in the eyes of their abductors. Secondly, it smirks of some form of religious persecution; if not, why are their captors converting them to another religion? And if they say they will use them as a condition to negotiate their men in detention, our daughters are not criminals and cannot be used in any way to free their criminal fighters."

Tomorrow, May 14, clocks one months since more than 230 schoolgirls were abducted by Boko Haram insurgents in Chibok, Borno State. Some of the victims managed to escape soon after the kidnap, however, the majority are still missing.

Foreign agencies have offered help in the find-and-rescue operation. World famous politicians and celebrities have been joining the social media #BringBackOurGirls campaign.

In one video released 3 weeks after the abduction Boko Haram leader said the girls are his ownership and promised to sell them in the market. In the recent video, released Monday, Shekau claimed the girls were converted to Islam
