APC Urges PDP To Stop Sabotaging Their Membership Registration
The All Progressives Congress have alleged that the rival Peoples Democratic Party is sabotaging its ongoing nationwide membership registration and asked them to stop doing so.
It will be recalled that on Friday, the PDP claimed the APC were "inflating" its membership figure while registrating new members reportedly to unleash violence if the party fails to win the 2015 election.
Replying on Monday through its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the APC said the PDP is trying to truncate Nigeria's democracy by its "campaign of lies" against the APC membership registration.
Mr. Mohammed maintained that his party is interested in giving Nigerians a chance to be part of their country's constitutional democracy. According to him, by spreading lies, the PDP have only demonstrated how weak and afraid they are.
"The PDP is wrong about its claim that the APC is engaging in phantom registration," Lai Mohammed said. "The party should know that while anyone can manufacture numbers, no one can manufacture human beings.
"Within the first three days of our registration exercise, we had met and exceeded the target we set for ourselves. Nigerians have flocked to our party, which they have come to see more as a mass movement than just a political party. This explains why we have extended the registration period by two days. The PDP is aware of the widespread acceptability of the APC and has started quivering."
The APC then suggested that the PDP should also launch their own membership drive to know what Nigerians thought of them.
The party asked its political opponents to stop sabotaging its membership registration by sponsoring attacks on registration officials, hijacking registration materials in Abia and Rivers, bribing some media representatives and burning down the APC's secretariat in Gombe.
Finally, the APC denied getting any assistance from the Independent National Electoral Commission or using any material obtained from the commission.
