Why I Won't Congratulate Wike - Gov Amaechi Opens Up

The Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has described the victory of Nyesom Wike in the just concluded governorship election in the state as daylight robbery.

According to him, he will never accept the victory of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate.

Amaechi was reacting to a call by the Minister of State II for Foreign Affairs, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, that he and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state should concede defeat and congratulate the winner in the interest of the state.

He also described the election as a sham and disgrace to democracy.

In his reaction, Wike had said that Amaechi should never be listened to, urging politicians in the state to emulate President Goodluck Jonathan who conceded defeat in the last presidential election.

Following reports of violence during the elections in Rivers state, with several people shot and some killed, international election observers have called for the cancellation of the governorship and House of Assembly elections in Rivers.
